This course provides an insightful dissection of identifiable elements that influence innovative measures to sport organizational decision making.

  • Comprehension of the history, explanation, and traits of creative thinking will be explored in alignment with sports industry trends (past, present, and prospective future).

  • Economic objectives will be discussed and weighed against environmental factors (i.e., economy, technology, segmentation, political and legal, as well as biology) that force sport organizations to adapt, evolve, and innovate.

  • Designed as a practicum for aspiring and current sport administrators to simulate, in fun and engaging ways, scenarios to strategize and to build a professional sport organization from the ground up, incorporating features such as selecting a hosting city, site location, venue development, sales tactics, and marketing initiatives, among others.

Mark Orlando

Program Director & Sport Innovator

Mark Orlando is a professor, consultant, and coach of sport business and professional development with several years of progressive experience in both academic and professional working environments. While Mark currently serves as the Program Director of the Sports Management program at California Lutheran University, he has also taught at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Pepperdine University, University of California, Los Angeles, Summer Discovery, Westcoast Connection, Summer Springboard, and MiraCosta College’s Emerging Leaders Institute. As an educator and mentor, his vision and personal goal is to provide students of all levels, backgrounds, and personal objectives with the resources and knowledge that could assist them with their prospective careers and professional development. His approach to the classroom setting has been recognized through multiple awards, honors, and nominations on behalf of various departments and student organizations.
